| The purpose of Mehfuz Children Welfare Trust stems from its founder, Mashud Miah. Mr. Miah came to Canada from Bangladesh in 1985. While in Canada, he and his wife a baby born prematurely, who would have died but for the excellent health care available in Canada, their son was able to survive. This son, Mehfuz, is the inspiration for Mr. Miah wishing to provide a greater degree of health care to children in his native, Bangladesh. Mr. Miah himself suffered a very serious automobile accident several years ago. From the monetary settlement he received he has already purchased land at Kulaura Road, Post Khajeldera, Upazilla Kulaura, Dist. Moulvibazar, Bangladesh for the construction of a children hospital. This location is approximately 90km from any other medical treatment facility. The need of this hospital is extraordinary in this rural area of population of 5000. Mr. Miah believes that if a proper hospital was situated in Mirzapur, then many children will survive. Also, the hospital will treat malnutrition and paralysis for children. There is currently research and statistics being collected in this rural area and surrounding areas to see what major health care problems are out there and also what kind of facility Mehfuz Children Welfare Trust can provide to eliminate these problems. |
